Tarun Mathur, Chief Business Officer (General Insurance), PolicyBazaar.com, says that this is because the fact that the insurance landscape has changed widely and customers buy insurance according to their needs. But the same thing is not true for car insurance. Because the customer does not buy it at the dealership, rather it is sold along with the car. Therefore, while buying a car, attention should also be paid to its insurance options.
Mathur explains, ‘Car insurance can also be purchased at dealerships and can also be purchased online. But people like to buy at the dealership along with the car, because it is hassle free. Although this is a bit true. But you should know that if you buy insurance at the dealership, then you pay more for it. In many cases, it is more than Rs 5,000 to Rs 35,000, which is determined according to the price of the car.
He said, ‘For example, dealers charge up to Rs 35,000 for the insurance of a mid-size sedan car with a 1.6 liter engine. However, when you search online, you will get insurance for the same car for around Rs 26,000. If you insure a 2.2 liter engine SUV at the dealership, you will get it between Rs 60,000 and Rs 70,000, whereas online you can get the same insurance for Rs 45,000.

Insurance Regulatory Authority of India (IRDAI) has made rules in this regard and no dealer can deny you cashless facility. If your insured has an agreement with him in this regard, even the warranty of the car is done by the insurance company and the dealer has no role in what the warranty will or will not cover.
